Hilltop Dairies are looking for a Farm Manager to manage their 300+ grass-based spring calving herd.

The Job – This farm in Tulsk, Co Roscommon is a progressive and forward thinking farm with excellent facilities and high performing cows.  The farm has undergone lots of development in the last number of years, including a 33-unit herringbone parlour, SenseHub, good roadways and well set up paddocks.  We use contractors for most tractor work, calf rearing and spring night watch.  As manager your main roles will include –

  • Milking – supervise, maintain equipment and ensure hygiene and milk recordings
  • Herd health – monitor health, vaccination plan, calving and breeding
  • Grassland management – measures and soil fertility
  • Fertiliser spreading and winter feeding
  • Manage a small team – through good communication and planning
  • Machine maintenance – ensure all machines are in working order
  • Health and Safety – for yourself and all others on farm
  • Budgets – assist with and monitor farm budgets

If you are interested you must have –

  • A passion for cows and a grass-based system
  • Experience as a working Dairy Farm Manager or at least 2 years as a Herd Manager and looking to progress
  • Excellent grassland management skills
  • The ability to manage herd health
  • A drive to continually improve performance and the farm
  • Enthusiasm and reliability
  • A team working ethic as well as your own initiative
  • Great communication skills
  • Tractor licence and be competent at driving
